Short Description / Purpose of Job
Respond promptly to emergency situations within GSO operation and projects areas including well pads, flowlines, trunkline, and associated infrastructures and equipment
Recruitment Description / Key Accountabilities
Respond to fire alarms within Sasol facility; lay and connect hose; maintain pumping apparatus; hold nozzles and direct water streams; raise and climb ladders; ventilate burning structures; enter buildings to evacuate occupants.
Search and rescue affected personnel in the fire area.
Operate all types of fire operation and rescue equipment including portable fire extinguishers, pike poles, hand lines, salvage covers, forcible entry tools, and emergency medical equipment.
Respond to emergency medical incidents such as auto accidents, gas system leaks and animals in distress and administer first-aid
Preserve evidence at fire scenes.
Drive emergency vehicle to incident scene safely.
Inspect firefighting equipment (e.g., foam units, fire extinguishers, fire hydrants, etc.) and vehicles.
Maintain and refill Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus.
Take safety precautions in emergencies by prioritizing personal safety and team safety.
Develop rescue plans for execution of various tasks.
Conduct standbys and perform rescue activities on critical tasks.
Report the results of callouts attended accurately.
Implement Sasol Group’s risk philosophy and enterprise risk management framework.
Build and maintain positive relationships with internal stakeholders to raise awareness and reduce damages resulting from fires.
Continuously improve own skills and knowledge.
Complete, implement, and track personal development plan to attain personal performance goals.
Formal Education
High School / School Diploma or similar
Min Experience
3+ relevant years’ experience as industrial firefighter
Certification & Professional Membership
Fire Fighter 1 & Hazmat Awareness
Fire Fighter 2 & Hazmat Operational
First Aid Level 3 / Basic Life Support (BLS)
Code C1 Driver’s License
Abilities:
Work under strict discipline and follow orders.
Demonstrate mechanical aptitude as required in the operation of firefighting equipment.
Demonstrate physical aptitude as required by essential functions.
Read and understand technical materials, rules, regulations, and procedures related to firefighting.
Operate and perform basic service maintenance procedures on all firefighting equipment, both manually operated and motorized.
Learn to analyze emergency situations and quickly determine effective courses of action.
Learn to identify various hazardous materials.
Retain presence of mind in emergency situations.
Think and act quickly and effectively in emergencies.
Understand and follow oral and written directions promptly and accurately.
Operate and maintain voice radio equipment.
Work in adverse physical locations and conditions.
Perform heavy lifting and physical manoeuvring.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
Maintain physical condition to perform essential duties as specified by firefighter certification.
