JOB DESCRIPTION

  1. Line management of Protection project field staff
  2. Adherence to NRC policies, guidance and procedures and awareness of NRC global and regional strategies on protection
  3. Contribute to Protection strategy development, project proposals and provide input on needs and gaps, considering where appropriate the role of cash-based interventions and market based programmes
  4. Manage and implement delegated portfolio of Protection projects (activities, budget and project documentation) as delegated from PM in line with proposals, strategies and donor requirements, and ensure high technical quality
  5. Provide regular progress reports to Area Manager
  6. Ensure that projects target beneficiaries and communities in most  need of protection,  explore and asses new, innovative and better ways to assist people we serve with the best solutions to their needs
  7. Ensure capacity building of project staff and transfer key skills in support of protection programming
  8. Liaise and collaborate with relevant local authorities and other key stakeholders including community structures
  9. Promote the rights of IDPs/returnees in line with the advocacy strategy to ensure that they reach / attain durable solutions as a result of protection interventions and advocacy of NRC

RESPONSIBILITIES

These responsibilities shall be adapted to the particularities of the job location and context, phase of operation, strategic focus and type of programme intervention. This section shall be revised whenever a new employee is hired or the context changes significantly.

  • Ensure the implementation of protection activities such as community based protection, case management and IPA .
  • Promote integration of protection (mainstreaming) in NRC protection  programme, in collaboration with Project Specialist and Area Manager
  • Liaise with M&E team to ensure accurate reporting on protection indicators
  • Ensure active and frequent  Community Consultation, feedback and Referral mechanisms and systems in place  to ensure a quality and context-appropriate response.
  • Provide leadership on and capacity building for protection programming.
  • Implement protection information management systems are in tandem with GDPR. And in cooperation with the Community Consultation and Referral Teams. Ensure that all protection related detected cases are referred to the concerned referral focal point and to the Area Manager.
  • Contribute to context analysis, protection needs assessments and identification of risks and threats.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Degree in Social Sciences or other relevant areas 
  • These are skills, knowledge and experience that are important for effective performance
  • Experience from working on protection project implementation position in a humanitarian/recovery context
  • Experience working on cash response and community-based approach
  • Strong capacity to do risk and vulnerability analysis for conflict affected communities.
  • Previous experience from working in complex and volatile contexts
  • Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities
  • Knowledge about own leadership skills/profile
  • Fluency in Portuguese and English, both written and verbal
  • Experience of protection in Mozambique and specific situation in Cabo Delgado
  • Local language knowledge as well as context understanding
  • Strong knowledge on legal framework in Mozambique and possible referral mechanisms for protection programs.
  • Coordination and strong networking skills
