Short Description/ Purpose of Job

Objective of the Position

The Community Engagement and Behaviour Change Coordinator will be responsible for the coordination and implementation of project activities at the provincial level in the community area, ensuring the application of the defined strategies and methodologies. The Coordinator will provide direct technical support to the Community Engagement and Behaviour Change Specialist and the officers of the Community-Based Organisations (CBOs) (Human Rights League, Formucan, Akadi, Oremo). The Coordinator will also support the coordination and liaison between health services and the community at the provincial level.

Main Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with provincial project officers in the development of provincial work plans for the different partners involved in the project, in the districts of intervention.
  • Provide technical and logistical support to the Community Engagement and Behaviour Change Specialist in implementing the work plans, ensuring the timely coordination of activities and provision of necessary materials for their implementation.
  • Supervise community activities, ensuring the use of prescribed methodologies, proper use of materials, and quality of communication.
  • Facilitate or support the delivery of training, capacity-building, or continuous training sessions (CBOs, activists, teachers, mentors, community leaders, etc.).
  • Ensure timely responses to priority needs outlined in the plans, as well as appropriate and timely justification of the activities carried out.
  • Facilitate the development of community debate and action processes as defined by the project.
  • Facilitate the creation of favourable local conditions for the execution of the planned research studies.
  • Identify needs within the scope of the projects and make proposals for their improvement, with particular focus on socio-cultural, economic, or other issues affecting gender relations, including GBV and inequalities in SRH.
  • Support the establishment of positive collaboration with provincial administration, local institutions, and community structures to ensure that the project’s activity plans are well understood and supported by all stakeholders, seeking strategies to minimise duplication of efforts and maximise the impact of activities.
  • Contribute to the process of documenting best practices and generating evidence.
  • Prepare programme reports as required.
  • Contribute to the timely collection of data under your responsibility.
  • Ensure issues are addressed quickly and effectively.
  • Maintain good communication and information flow with implementation partners, project colleagues, and supervisors, promoting a work environment based on collaboration and mutual support within the team, and demonstrating commitment to gender equality both inside and outside the office.
  • Perform other duties assigned by Pathfinder.

Basic Requirements

  • A degree in Social Sciences, Anthropology, Psychology, Public Health, Public Policy, or related fields is an advantage.
  • Ability to establish good communication with the Community Engagement and Behaviour Change Specialist, CBO officers, community groups, and develop effective working relationships.
  • Excellent communication skills at different levels, particularly at the local and community levels.
  • Facilitation and capacity-building skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in Portuguese.
  • Computer skills in Windows, Excel, PowerPoint, and word processing applications.
  • Willingness to travel to districts.
  • Knowledge of local languages is an advantage.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in the area of sexual and reproductive health and/or gender equality and girls’ and women’s rights and/or community mobilisation.
  • Technical expertise in project management.
  • Experience working with adolescents and young people or in collaboration with youth/community associations.
