More on Nampula
Short Description/ Purpose of Job
Our work is rooted in the belief that, when given the opportunity, hardworking men and women—even in the poorest places—can generate income, jobs, and wealth for their families and communities. With more than five decades of proven results, we believe in the power of private enterprise to transform lives. In Mozambique, we have been operating since 1998, developing our activities in the provinces of Cabo Delgado (Pemba), Nampula, Zambézia (Quelimane), Manica (Chimoio), Inhambane (Maxixe), and in Maputo, where our head office is located.
Funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), Oholo is a 2-year project valued at USD 4.1 million. The project aims to accelerate MSME growth across all sectors by strengthening the Business Development Services (BDS) ecosystem, supporting MSMEs and entrepreneurs—particularly women and youth—and promoting economic growth, job creation, and resilience.
The project builds on the insights gained during its inception and transition phase, moving from direct intervention to a more comprehensive Market Systems Development approach. This shift involves transferring knowledge and expertise to local BDS providers, thus ensuring long-term scalability and sustainability for the MSME market.
The project seeks to strengthen the capacity of BDS providers to effectively serve a diverse range of businesses. This will be achieved through direct training sessions with BDS teams and the development of sustainable business models to reinforce BDS operational models.
TechnoServe Mozambique is seeking to hire an Associate Business Advisor for a period of 4 months (December 2025 – March 2026), to temporarily replace the current Business Advisor who will soon be on maternity leave.
The Associate Business Advisor will be responsible for identifying, recruiting, training, and providing post-training follow-up for women and youth participants in the project. Additionally, the role includes facilitating training and mentoring sessions in business skills, financial literacy, gender awareness, and promoting networking among entrepreneurs.
Recruitment Description/ Key Accountabilities

Provide ongoing guidance and mentoring throughout the project to improve business performance and support the development and implementation of business plans.
Facilitate a gender awareness module that is effective, culturally sensitive, and of high quality for women and youth entrepreneurs—ensuring the right messages are conveyed (particularly regarding gender-based violence mitigation) and monitoring knowledge absorption.
Ensure the implementation of the project’s gender strategy and achievement of gender-related targets, while supporting participants facing gender, psychosocial, or dropout challenges by reporting such issues to the project team for support and resolution.
Support BDS providers in the process of diagnosing, designing, and implementing their Sustainability Action Plans, ensuring that proposed and discussed actions are effectively carried out.
