World Education is recruiting an Accountant (m/f) for Quelimane in Mozambique.
Description
The SABER programme aims at: improving the quality of instruction for the development of reading, comprehension and mathematics skills from grade 1 to 6; successful transition between learning cycles; monitoring compliance with the teaching programme in target schools in Nampula and Zambezia provinces. The programme will have a central office in Nampula and an office in Zambezia
The accountant is responsible for providing effective financial support to the project ensuring compliance with policies and procedures by processing financial information in the financial software (Quickbooks), preparing monthly reports, processing travel advances, payroll and monitoring payments and receipts

Duties
Reviewing compliance of local expenditure reports with USAID and WEI procedures
Ensure that all transactions are fully documented
Processing of all expenses related to program implementation whether in local or foreign currency (US dollars)
Prepare bank reconciliations prior to Quickbooks database submission
Coordinate with program and administrative staff to ensure transactions are properly coded
Prepare and issue payment checks to local staff
Follow up on reconciliations of staff travel advances, travel reports, and travel advance reconciliations to ensure that these are submitted on time
Work with the finance manager to monitor the local and foreign currency bank accounts, ensuring that sufficient funds are held in them
Ensure that INSS and IRPS contributions are paid on time
Perform other tasks and responsibilities as required; keep track of cash on hand
Clearly communicate action plans and results with colleagues and their line supervisor and respect views and opinions of other team members, and if necessary support other members in achieving their goals
Advocate to staff and communities for gender inclusion and equity in the activities undertaken in a way that is inclusive and competitive
Be aware of child protection requirements and have a commitment in accordance with the child protection policy of World Education Inc.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or similar field
Must have 5 years of general work experience, including at least 3 years of accounting experience
Experience working with international programs preferred
Experience working in auditing and/or consulting areas is preferred
Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs (mainly Excel); Quickbooks experience highly preferred
Good communication skills in English and Portuguese (written and verbal) highly desired
Excellent leadership and team management skills
Excellent planning and organization skills
Ability to take decisions
Quality of work orientation
Ability to travel and work irregular hours when necessary
