Short Description/ Purpose of Job

The Climate Literacy Officer will be responsible for implementing climate literacy activities in schools across the Gaza province, using the Green Mindset Framework (a new tool developed by Save the Children International). They will work closely with partners such as Moz Hydroponics and local authorities to promote climate education among children and young people, support the creation and revitalisation of environmental clubs, and train teachers and community facilitators. This role is vital to achieving the objectives of the LINK project in climate literacy and sustainable engagement within school communities.

The LINK project officer will oversee the implementation of project activities at the district level, ensuring alignment with the LINK project’s goals and objectives. They will collaborate with local authorities, partners, and communities to ensure effective project execution at the district level.

The Climate Literacy Officer will be based in Chókwé, covering the respective districts (three in each province). Although the Officer will not have direct budgetary responsibilities, they must contribute to the efficient use of resources in climate literacy activities. This role involves frequent visits to schools and communities to implement educational activities and revitalise environmental clubs. The officer must work closely with local partners, especially Moz Hydroponics, and government authorities to strengthen project activities in schools and ensure community integration and adherence, thereby ensuring the LINK project’s goals are achieved effectively.

Qualifications and Skills

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences, Education, Environmental Sciences, or related fields.

Experience and Skills

Essential:

  • At least two years of experience in climate or environmental education or community development programmes.
  • Proven skills in capacity-building and training, particularly with children and young people.
  • Leadership and coordination abilities for educational activities in school and community settings.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Commitment to Save the Children’s values and basic knowledge of child protection.
  • Experience in media engagement and public relations within the NGO sector.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in Portuguese (and ideally in other local languages). Proficiency in spoken and written English is an advantage.
  • Ability to manage complex workflows and challenging situations.
  • Strong personal organisational skills, including time management, the ability to meet deadlines, and work under pressure.

Desirable:

  • Commitment to and understanding of Save the Children’s objectives, values, and principles, including rights-based approaches.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Motivated and ethically driven to perform the role.
  • Willingness to work under pressure and outside normal working hours when necessary.
