Short Description/ Purpose of Job

Save the Children International (SCI), a non-profit humanitarian organisation focused on child welfare, is recruiting candidates for the position mentioned below:

Finance Coordinator – Mocuba – ZA – SC 011/24 – Zambézia

Save the Children is currently implementing a five-year food assistance development project called Okhokelamo ni Solha, aimed at mobilising community participation for improved, sustainable food and nutrition security, as well as resilience among extremely poor and chronically vulnerable families and communities in Zambézia.

The Finance Coordinator will be responsible for general accounting and the technical supervision of the region’s accountants. They will manage SCI’s cash flow efficiently and effectively, updating and reconciling accounting records. They will also manage the end-of-period/month processes, and provide accurate and timely financial reports to the head office, while technically supervising the region’s accountants.

In the event of a major humanitarian emergency, the post-holder will work outside the normal role profile and be required to adjust their working hours accordingly.

Qualifications and Skills

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance from a recognised university.

Experience and Skills

Essential:

  • At least 5 years of progressively relevant professional experience in international NGOs in a humanitarian and development context, 3 of which must be at the financial management level;
  • Strong skills and experience in accounting, including journal entries, payroll, accounts payable, and balance sheet analysis;
  • Extensive experience in external donor reporting for an international NGO and experience working with major donors such as USAID;
  • Strong financial management skills, knowledge of accounting software packages, and understanding of Government budgets and fiscal policies;
  • Proven ability to work with minimal supervision, prioritise tasks, and meet tight deadlines;
  • Planning, organisation, and negotiation skills;
  • Experience working with local partners and District Government in the delivery of Health, Education, HIV/AIDS, or Child Protection programmes;
  • The ability to speak the local language and interact directly with the target group would be an advantage;
  • Strong analytical and strategic planning skills;
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships and function effectively as part of a team;
  • Willingness to travel and work in remote areas, occasionally in challenging conditions;
  • Proficiency in IT and excellent documentation skills is essential;
  • Availability and willingness to work extra hours during humanitarian response periods;
  • Highly adaptable with the ability to work in a multi-cultural environment;
  • Ability to intervene in crisis management or problem resolution if needed;
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to influence, negotiate, and guide;
  • Excellent time management and planning skills;
  • Commitment to Save the Children’s values.
