Short Description/ Purpose of Job
As a member of the Programme Development and Quality (PDQ) team, the Gender and GBV Coordinator will play a crucial role in promoting the rights and well-being of child survivors of GBV in Cabo Delgado province, contributing to broader child protection and empowerment efforts in the region through integrated Child Protection and Education programmes that are supported and/or led by Save the Children in Mozambique (SCIMOZ) and partners.
He/she will lead the implementation of programmes aimed at addressing gender inequalities that impact on girls’ and boys’ chances of accessing and retaining in school, as well as the unique needs of child survivors of GBV. Using integrated child protection and education programming in the project sites, the gender focal point will be responsible for working with community structures (community leaders, matrons, parents/carers, religious leaders and other influential people) and the formal multi-sectoral sector to raise boys’ and girls’ participation in decision-making, develop their skills and empower them to actively make positive choices.
The main objective of this role is also to provide comprehensive support to the main thematic areas of the project, ensuring gender-sensitive and transformative actions in the field of education, protection, water and sanitation and advocacy for the rights of children suffering from barriers and violence, ensuring that their rights are respected and that their well-being is prioritised. It will work closely with local partners, stakeholders and communities to strengthen their capacities to implement preventive measures and respond to gender-based violence. Special attention will be paid to preventing and assisting child survivors of sexual violence, including those at risk and victims of early and forced marriages and unions in conflict-affected areas, in collaboration with child protection teams and key services. In addition, this post will ensure the full application of humanitarian principles in rapid response, as well as the promotion of gender equality throughout the programme cycle.
In the event of a major humanitarian emergency, the post holder will be expected to work outside the normal job profile and have the possibility to vary working hours accordingly.
