Short Description/ Purpose of the Job
The Gender Specialist will develop, in coordination with the sector managers of Ayuda en Accion en Moçambique’s projects and programmes, specifically Economic and Humanitarian Opportunities, and with the institutional focal point for Gender Equality, the women’s empowerment activities included in the AeA projects of the PN of Mozambique.
Specifically, it will ensure the correct implementation of women’s entrepreneurship and labour insertion initiatives in the Work for Progress (W4P) project and the proper integration of the gender and human rights approach in humanitarian interventions.

Main responsibilities
At an operational level, in the area of Economic Opportunities:
- Ensuring the participation of and assistance to partners for the inclusion of gender equity in W4P activities and prototypes.
- Mobilising women and other vulnerable groups, boosting the Women’s Business Platforms (WBP).
- Promote gender equity in the W4P Project, ensuring that field agents are 50% women.
- Draw up documented reports on actions and results, as well as other documents required by the institution or donor.
At an operational level in the humanitarian area:
- He/she will be PSEA’s focal point, both internally and externally, participating in working groups in the field of protection and gender-based violence.
- Design and promote the inclusion of gender-sensitive activities in the fields of shelter, WASH, livelihoods and protection, with special attention to the rights of girls and displaced or returned women.
- Draw up documented reports on actions and results, as well as other documents required by the institution or donor.
At a strategic and institutional level:
- Institutional strengthening to facilitate and enable the integration of the gender perspective into all practices, actions, policies and organisational culture.
- Developing an annual plan to strengthen the gender-related competences, knowledge and practices of Ayuda en Acción teams, local partners and target groups related to gender equality and women’s rights.
Strengthening techniques, methodologies and practices of planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation with a gender focus, in order to guarantee the sustainability of actions and the empowerment of men and women we work with, especially in the promotion of economic rights.
Participate in identifying opportunities and formulating projects. - Identify opportunities for visibility, strategic alliances and funding, establishing communication channels and relationships with representatives of key players. In particular, foster relations with national organisations specialising in gender equality.
- Support the preparation of information and communication material on gender and monitor the implementation of gender-sensitive monitoring and follow-up instruments for the NP’s activities.
Supporting the visibility and valorisation of the contribution of women in the different sectors of AeA intervention in the country. - Complying with and enforcing the AeA’s internal regulations, administrative procedures manual and code of conduct.
Requirements
Knowledge and Experience
- University studies
- Postgraduate studies in Gender in Development.
- Accreditation as a certified trainer.
- Professional experience in the Cabo Delgado region or northern Mozambique.
- Have knowledge of PSEA, GVB and Protection.
- Proven experience of at least 5 years in designing, planning, implementing, monitoring and/or evaluating programmes to promote gender equality, economic empowerment, women’s rights and gender mainstreaming.
- Experience in rural areas and with displaced populations will be particularly relevant.
- More than 3 years of proven experience in supporting, raising awareness, training and accompanying work teams and sectors of the population targeted by actions with a gender and rights-based approach.
- More than 2 years of experience in institutional strengthening work related to sensitisation, training and the full insertion of the gender approach in the application of institutional policies and practices.
- Previous experience in the humanitarian sector and knowledge of humanitarian standards and principles.
- Excellent relations with women’s and social movements, networks and organisations for the promotion and defence of women’s equality at national and regional level.
