Short Description/ Purpose of Job

The MEAL Intern will work in the MEAL unit at national level under supervision of the National MEAL Specialist providing support for the implementation of the MEAL system for humanitarian and development programmes in Mozambique. After a capacity building process, the MEAL intern will primarily support on MEAL data analysis, visualization and use to inform evidence-based decisions by the project managers and ESMT. He/she will assist the use of the standard MEAL reporting tools, ensuring that all the monthly reports are compiled and submitted timely and with high quality (IPTTs, QB, Project on Track, Complains and feedback data Base, etc).  

Apart from the above, the MEAL intern will provide support to the implementation of the Country Office ongoing technology initiatives. His/her support will also be required to field offices on tracking the progress against the implementation of  evaluations/researches, making sure they are planed and implemented within the timeframe.

The MEAL intern will also act as the accountability Focal Point, performing regular analysis of the feedbacks being collected and sharing accountability reports to inform decisions by the management teams.

  2. Monitoring, evaluation and accountability: 
  • Draft the monthly management MEAL reports to share through MEAL Specialist to senior management for decision-making;
  • Check the completeness of the monthly reports by province (IPTT, PoT, QB and CFM);
  • Ensure that all the relevant MEAL data is regularly uploaded in the main organization Web sites (e.g. SharePoint, Evaluation Repository, etc); 
  • Participate in data quality assessment exercises and track the implementation of the actions;
  • Track the progress against the implementation of evaluations/researches including support in some critical steps at national level (e.g. Bioethics approval); 
  • Support the projects uploading survey tools into KOBO Collect;
  • Perform analysis on the complaints submitted and produce accountability reports flagging the main issues and trends; 
  • Support the roll out of the country office’s technology initiatives. 

 

  1.  Others:
  • Attend all the relevant MEAL meetings, trainings and workshops; 
  • Ensure logistics arrangements of the MEAL team on organizing training/workshops as well as field visits;
  • Complete any other MEAL related activities assigned by MEAL Specialist.

  1. REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM TASKS
  • Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, information technology, statistics, development or related field;
  • 6 months of experience as intern on MEAL for development/humanitarian projects; 
  • Strong computer skills, mainly in Word, Excel, PBI;
  • Software skills in using mobile data collection (Kobo, ODK or other);
  • Good data analysis skills;
  • Good in team work towards multicultural values, multi-location;
  • Availability to work and travel in often difficult environments;
  • A good level of writing and speaking in Portuguese and English languages;
  • Committed to the values ​​and principles of Save Children International, in particular, a good understanding of the SC’s mandate and approach and the ability to ensure that it continues to support our support.

 

  1. CHILD SAFEGUARDING
  • Ensure that children’s activities are safe for children and that all measures are taken to ensure their full and safe participation.
  • Integrate monitoring of CSG issues in to various monitoring tools and checklists. When found CSG or other sensitive complaints/concerns, refer to the focal person immediately, ensure they are addressed timely and communicated back to complainants
