Short Description/ Purpose of Job

Institutional Arrangements

The position as a Project Analyst is embedded within the Rule of Law and Human Rights Programme 2022-2026 of the Governance and Social Cohesion. S/he will report to the Team Leader – Head of Governance and Social Cohesion Unit (strategic leadership and supervision, direct reporting as it may be ad hoc required). The incumbent will be also expected to work collaboratively with the Gender Focal Point and colleagues in other relevant UNDP teams.

Requirements:

Minimum education requirements:

  • Advanced University degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in law, international relations, human rights, political sciences, development or other related field. 
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field with additional two years of qualifying work experience will be given due consideration in lieu of master’s university degree.

Minimum years of relevant work experience:

  • Minimum of two years (with master’s degree) or four years (with bachelor’s degree) of progressively responsible experience at the national or international level in project management in areas related to justice, rule of law, human rights or democratic governance.

Required Skills:

  • Demonstrated experience in project management and very good knowledge of the project management tools;
  • A certification in Project Management, (e.g. Prince, MSP) is a distinctive asset;
  • Excellent knowledge of the functioning of the justice sector, particularly the chain of criminal justice and professional experience in most of these areas: justice sector reform, access to justice, gender justice, capacity building, security sector reform and related issues;
  • Deep knowledge and understanding of human rights and gender issues, including in their socio-political and economic dimension;
  • Demonstrated understanding of community justice and community security mechanisms and principles; 
  • Very good analytical, communication and writing skills;
  • Knowledge of the Mozambique’s justice related legal and policy framework and institutional environment.

Desired skills in addition to the competencies covered in the Competencies section:

  • Knowledge of People-Centered Approaches to access to justice and human security;
  • Experience in results-based planning, Human Rights Based and Gender Responsive Approaches;
  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) processes and principles;
  • Prior experience within the United Nations, in particular UNDP, is desirable but not a requirement.

Language

  • Excellent writing and communication in Portuguese and English.
