Description:
The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) seeks a highly qualified and experienced individual to coordinate the agricultural innovation transfer programme. The coordinator will manage partnerships focused on transferring technologies and practices aimed at increasing the productivity and resilience of smallholder farmers through capacity building and the provision of extension services. The project aims to accelerate innovation transfer, enabling research partners to support last-mile partners to scale up necessary innovations to increase smallholder productivity and resilience. The Mozambique Accelerated Innovation Delivery Initiative (AID-1) is a 4-year project funded by USAID and led by IITA in partnership with agricultural research and scaling partners in selected districts of Nampula, Zambezia, and Niassa provinces.
Under the supervision of the IITA-Mozambique Country Representative, the project coordinator will act as a key member of the field implementation team. The coordinator will provide leadership, charisma, guidance, cohesion, accountability, and will be responsible for strengthening partnerships. The coordinator will actively promote women’s participation and gender equity in all programme activities.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
– Provide results-based programme leadership and coordination to ensure that programme targets are met within established deadlines (e.g., packaging and distribution of agricultural inputs, organising training sessions, creating demonstration plots, etc.).
– Engage partners, key stakeholders, and beneficiary communities energetically and charismatically to inspire participation in the programme and the adoption of transferred innovations and practices.
– Promote enthusiasm and flawless execution by programme teams.
– Oversee the development and use of visual tools (e.g., posters and flyers) that will be used to promote innovations and practices.
– Establish and strengthen productive partnerships and facilitate learning and knowledge sharing across programme partnerships.
– Identify, develop, review, and supervise the strategies, activities, and associated indicators necessary for successful programme implementation.
– Organise regular planning and review meetings with implementation partners and key programme stakeholders.
– Establish an effective and efficient programme monitoring system and database that captures and communicates programme results and milestones.
– Coordinate the planning, execution, monitoring, and evaluation of the project with partners to ensure the harmonisation of approaches, integrated reporting, and submission of reports within agreed deadlines.
– Contribute to the capacity building of project partners through structured training workshops.
– Perform any other relevant duties as assigned by the Supervisor.
Required Qualifications and Competencies:
– A minimum of a master’s degree in Project Management, Agriculture, Rural Development, Social Sciences, or any other relevant field from a recognised university.
– At least 5 years of experience as a coordinator of large-scale agricultural development projects, preferably in Sub-Saharan Africa.
– Experience with donor-funded agricultural development projects. Relevant experience may include work in technical areas such as seed systems, community engagement, technology dissemination, agricultural productivity, nutrition, poverty reduction, and income generation.
– A good understanding of the agricultural sector and its development challenges in Africa, particularly those affecting technology dissemination, adoption, and impacts.
– Demonstrated ability to integrate gender issues into development programmes to achieve equitable gender outcomes and impacts.
– Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a multidisciplinary environment.
– Proven ability to prepare high-quality reports and communications.
– Demonstrated skills in developing effective information-sharing tools (e.g., flyers and posters) for use in illiterate communities.
– Proven ability to engage key stakeholders and partners.
– Excellent proficiency in both English and Portuguese, spoken and written.
Terms:
The contract will initially be for two years, with the possibility of renewal based on performance, availability of funding, and other factors. These positions are for nationally recruited staff, and IITA offers a competitive national remuneration package paid in local currency.
