Short Description/ Purpose of Job

The Safety and Security Coordinator (SSC) will support the Country Safety and Security Manager (CSSM) in implementing mitigation measures that minimise risks to our programmes, staff, visitors and assets. The SSC will support in the implementation of Save the Children’s Safety and Security Policy and Standards. He/she will help drive systemic culture change in the quality of safety and security management across all SCIMoz programmes and creates a collective commitment to create a safer working environment.

Educational Qualifications

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

 

Essential

  • Advanced training in security management
  • Advanced understanding of NGO philosophy and modus operandi
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in the relevant field
  • Experience in incident reporting, incident mapping, setting up and running an incident alert system (guard system), report writing and security assessments.
  • Good analytical skills, resourcefulness and creativity in developing the role of security in programmes and ensuring the most effective support to line management
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills, including influencing, negotiating and coaching
  • Good planning, coordination and reporting skills, with the ability to manage a substantial workload of complex and varied tasks and responsibilities
  • Flexibility to accept changes in working methods and hours as required
  • Ability to balance the demands of beneficiaries and security actors while maintaining appropriate contextual security advice and coordination from NGOs
  • Ability to travel and live for short periods in different field locations as required
  • Fluent in Portuguese and English
    Preferred
  • Experience in liaising with civilians and military in emergency situations
  • Experience in on-the-job training and capacity building
