Job Title: Social and Economic Analysis Officer

Short Description/ Purpose of Job

To strengthen the organization’s social and economic analysis systems, including research and investigation through the development of an annual research plan and in supporting the interpretation of quantitative data to better understand the evolution of projects and programs.

The position will also strengthen the development of the Knowledge Centre and virtual library and facilitate the analysis of the social and economic environment of the country, including the development and application of research systems and analysis of projects and programmes, within the framework of the Monitoring and Evaluation Unit.

The Social and Economic Analysis Officer will work in coordination with the MEAL Officer, under the direct supervision of the Programme Director and will work collaboratively with other functions and programmes of the organisation.

Main responsibilities

  • Design and preparation of social and economic research within the framework of national programme strategies;
  • Support the sectors of the organization in carrying out surveys and research of a socio-economic nature;
  • Develop, together with the sectors, an annual research plan and ensure its active implementation;
  • To support the analysis of the social and economic components of the surveys carried out by the organisation;
  • Guarantee the quality of the surveys carried out;
  • Carry out assesments together with the sectors for the identification and formulation of projects;
  • Maintain updated data on the social and economic situation of the country in general and with special focus on the areas of work of the organization (education, economic opportunities, humanitarian, gender, among others);
  • Create and keep up to date the document base, knowledge centre and virtual library of the organisation;
  • To interpret and analyse the results and indicators of the programmes and projects;
  • To support the collection and interpretation of documentation related to monitoring and evaluation;
  • To support the design of new projects, defining new indicators, tools and instruments for monitoring and evaluation;
  • To support the elaboration and development of narrative quality reports, cases and success stories, documentation and sharing of good practices;
  • Identify and propose improvements and adaptations to the MEAL unit;
  • Protect the integrity of programme/project documentation during implementation processes.

Requirements:

Knowledge and Experience.

  • Degree in Economics, Anthropology, Sociology and related areas in the field of social sciences;
  • Minimum 5 years of proven work experience in the field of social and economic research;
  • Experience in the design and application of social research instruments, both quantitative and qualitative;
  • Proven experience in survey design, sampling methodologies, data collection, synthesis development, data analysis and technical report writing;
  • Experience in using and programming data analysis and visualisation tools (Tableu, Power BI, Kobo, SPSS, NVIVO and in-depth knowledge of GIS);
  • Demonstrated experience in developing fundraising projects preferably in the NGO sector.

Skills and competencies

  • Mastery of practical application of social and economic research approaches in a participatory manner;
  • Ability to undertake complex tasks, work independently and take initiative;
  • Proven communication skills, including the ability to motivate people effectively and manage relationships with local leaders diplomatically;
  • Knowledge of computer packages with a focus on Excel;
  • Proven ability to work with communities.

Other requirements

  • Availability to travel and work in rural areas;
  • Good behaviour and attitude;
  • Ability to work as part of a team, independently and under pressure;
  • Knowledge of the English language is an advantage.
