Qualifications and Skills

Qualifications.

Degree in Psychology, Social Work or related field, advantage and/or substantial experience in the field in the implementation of projects in the area of Child Protection and Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS), especially in an emergency situation;

Experience and Skills.

Essential

At least 2 years of relevant professional experience in a humanitarian or emergency response environment and organization;
Relevant experience in social service, community development and working with children in a child protection program;
Coordinate comprehensive psychosocial support activities (School and community) with SDSMAS and SDJET;
Experience in implementing psychosocial support programs;
Experience of working directly with children and/or adolescents;
Training and capacity building skills, ability to conduct formal, structured, informal training, production of success stories and case studies;
Ability and experience to provide effective training on PSS, PFA, identification and referral, etc;
Experience of community facilitation and mobilization, including a good understanding of community politics and traditional networks in Cabo Delgado province;
Fluency in Portuguese, very good oral and written communication skills in English;
Excellent technical understanding of child protection and community-based approach;
Computer knowledge and skills mainly in Microsoft Office programs (Word and Excel);
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to represent Save the Children at coordination meetings and meetings with government offices;
Ability to work in a team, think critically and work well under pressure and in unpredictable conditions;
Ability to prioritize tasks;
Ability to work and operate in remote and hostile work environments;
Ability to work and live in a flexible, adaptable and resilient way
Gender awareness and sensitivity;
Commitment to Save the Children’s objectives and principles. In particular, a good understanding of SC’s policies and child focus and an ability to ensure that this continues to underpin our support.
Desirable

Experience of working with children and families, especially knowledge of children’s rights and participation;
Experience in managing CFS and providing psychosocial support through the common MHPSS approaches;
Fluency in a local language (Macua, Kimwani, Makonde);
Experience in capacity building;
Previous NGO experience, including an understanding of the neutral status of an international NGO;
Experience of working with SDJET and SDSMAS in the field of promoting social behavioral change services and school retention of girls (psychosocial support);
Previous knowledge of child/youth protection, education, child rights and emergencies;
Enthusiasm, motivation, self-confidence and a proactive approach to problem solving
Commitment to and understanding of SCI’s vision, mission and values;
Ability and willingness to drastically change work practices and schedules and work with incoming emergency teams in the event of emergencies;
Developed cultural awareness and ability to work well in an environment with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
