Description

IESE – the Institute for Social and Economic Studies – is an independent Mozambican research organisation whose primary mission is to conduct scientific research to generate knowledge, intellectual capacity, and foster public debate on Mozambique’s economic, social, and political development. The institute is seeking a professional for the position of Communication Officer, based in Maputo, with occasional travel to the provinces.

Objective of the Position

Under the supervision of the Scientific Director or the Coordinator of the Resource Centre, the Communication Officer is responsible for coordinating the institution’s communication activities. They will regularly interact with all relevant stakeholders within the organisation, providing advice and acting as a technical reference for communication-related services, while maintaining a broad view of the institution and the external environment in which it operates.

Responsibilities

  • Implement the institution’s communication strategy, including public relations and internal communication, in line with the organisation’s vision, strategy, and values.
  • Execute strategies to enhance and manage external digital communication (websites, social media, email/text campaigns, etc.) as required.
  • Coordinate communication efforts across traditional media, new media, and social media platforms.
  • Increase media presence and promote a better understanding of IESE’s work by developing relevant contacts and advancing content and narratives of public interest.
  • Establish working relationships with stakeholders and partners, and respond to feedback regarding organisational activities across traditional and digital channels.
  • Draft effective press releases to secure media coverage for the dissemination of IESE’s activities and those of its partners.
  • Support various communication activities, ensuring that all logistical and creative components are aligned with project objectives (participant identification, content alignment, etc.).
  • Perform other duties as requested by the supervisor and/or Management.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Communication, Public Relations, Journalism, Development Studies, or related fields.
  • At least 5 years of experience in Journalism, Public Relations, or Communication. Corporate or non-profit experience is an advantage.
  • Excellent writing and proofreading skills.
  • Experience managing graphic communications, websites, and email distribution platforms.
  • Fluency in written and spoken Portuguese and English.
