Research Triangle Institute (RTI International) is an independent international non-profit organization dedicated to improving the human condition through multidisciplinary technical assistance, training and research services that meet the highest standards of professional performance. We are currently seeking a qualified individual to serve as (a)Financial Assistant(a), USAID ACT EAST Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTD) Program in Mozambique; a USAID funded project.The successful candidate will be based in the capital, Maputo, and will report directly to the Mozambique Resident Program Advisor
The position is responsible for the day to day accounting function of the Project. Using the appropriate systems you will ensure that proper accounting procedures for disbursing, accounting and reporting the use of funds are applied in full. . On a daily basis, he is dedicated to budget management, general accounting and performance monitoring. He takes care of the accounting strategy and performs treasury monitoring.
Duties
Processes payments of staff travel advances, ensuring that advances are settled on time and accurately
Prepare payments and related support project activities supplier invoices and confirm that these payments are: i) in accordance with established procedures and policies, accurate, complete, properly supported by all appropriate underlying documents, ii) correctly coded for the appropriate expenditure and tracking code and project code
Provides support in the compilation and submission of the monthly financial reporting package for the respective projects
Submits necessary responses to comments made by the Finance Manager regarding travel and activity advances & related settlements
Maintain the office working capital
Make payments to workshop participants (including travel and meal reimbursements) as assigned by supervisor
Accounting for/monitoring expenses and other financial transactions, primarily involving expense entry, tracking and record keeping in the accounting system
Ensure proper submission of financial documents
Ensuring that all payments have proper supporting documents
Reconcile bank accounts, petty cash, accounts payable and receivable
Maintains the inventory tracking system and conducts periodic reviews to ensure compliance with procedures and terms of agreement
Assist in the preparation of budgets
Performs other duties as assigned by the Finance Director and Project Director
Requirements
Chartered Accountant licensed by the Commercial Institute of Maputo or Equivalent
05 years experience working as Financial Assistant or Accountant in NGO
Excellent knowledge of MS Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and Excel
Excellent knowledge of QuickBooks
Familiar with USAID procedures and regulations
Ability to multi-task
Ability to work well with others
Ability to listen and communicate well, both verbally and in writing
Ability to work independently
Attention to detail and accuracy
Ability to obtain appropriate security clearances as flagged by contracts
