Short Description/ Purpose of Job

ENGIE Energy Access Mozambique has a mission to electrify hundreds of thousands of households in Mozambique over the next ten years. To help us achieve this mission, the Financial Controller is responsible for overseeing day-to-day accounting functions, integrating finance operations, forecasting and budgeting, handling tax matters, preparing financial reports, and ensuring organizational financial stability.

Recruitment Description/ Key Accountabilities

Responsibilities 

  • Monitor stock orders by ensuring that stock orders submitted to China have been fulfilled by the China team. Compare purchase orders with receipts and perform aging of the orders to identify which orders are delayed and why.
  • Ensure that items received physically at the warehouse are immediately booked in SAP.
  • Ensure that any inventory movements such as repossessions, swaps, scrapping, etc. are immediately booked in SAP.
  • Organize and supervise monthly and annual stock counts and ensure that any variances are approved and booked in SAP before month end closure.
  • Review inventory valuation in SAP and ensure that Weighted Average Cost method is accurately applied.
  • Perform “Production” or “Assembly” in SAP on a timely manner.
  • Book sales in SAP and perform monthly AR reconciliation.
  • Support annual and internal audit in relation to sales, AR and inventory.
  • Perform monthly margin analysis for each item and advise management for any items sold at a loss.
  • Review slow moving items and ensure accurate valuation.
  • Review damaged and end of life items and ensure they are written off and disposed of as per the policy.
  • Streamline the accounting functions and operations.
  • Provide financial analysis and reports.
  • Monitoring internal controls.
  • Overseeing and preparing income statements.
  • Participating in budgeting processes.
  • Managing financial transactions.
  • Train staff on business finance issues, promote regulatory compliance, and drive income generation.

Key Attributes for the position of Financial Controller

  • Strategic Planning and exceptional numerical proficiency: to aid maintaining positive revenue and financial growth, formulating sound financial strategies, implementing proper internal controls and developing financial plans that support organizational strategy.
  • Good communication skills: must be able to communicate on different levels with people. Being able to get a message across to staff, superiors and customers is an essential skill that is put to the test daily.
  • Problem-solving and conflict management skills: Since most working environments will have some sort of conflict either internally or with clients, the Financial Controller will need good conflict management skills to resolve conflict. 
  • Able to work under pressure: Since the Financial Controller relates with various departments and projects, there will be stringent deadlines to meet. It is important that s/he is able to  effectively work even under pressure.  

Knowledge and Skills 

Experience & Skills:

  • Proven working experience as a Financial Controller or related position.
  • 5+ years of overall combined accounting and finance experience.
  • Strong analytical skills, exceptional problem solving, be highly organized and have excellent leadership skills.
  • Proven experience in finance management.
  • Auditing experience.
  • Compliance oriented.
  • Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and procedures.
  • Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year end close process.
  • Excellent accounting software user and administration skills.

Qualifications:

  • Degree in accounting or equivalent.
  • Professional Accounting Certificate.

Languages: 

  • Portuguese (fluent)
  • English (fluent)

Technology:

  • Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook, One Drive, SharePoint, Teams).
