Purpose of the Role

 

The Internal Control, Compliance, and Safeguarding Coordinator is responsible for assessing and monitoring the effectiveness of the risk management framework and control systems in the Country Office (CO) operations. This role focuses on conducting risk assessments, implementing mitigation strategies, and preventing and responding to cases of fraud while ensuring compliance with donor and organisational policies, procedures, and regulations. Additionally, the Coordinator leads internal reviews, performs spot checks, and conducts investigations—including those related to safeguarding and safer programming—to ensure a safe environment for all stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Auditing, Finance, Accounting, or related fields.
  • Membership in at least one relevant professional body, such as the Institute of Internal Auditors, ACCA, CPA, ICA, or possession of relevant professional qualifications.

Essential Requirements

  • A minimum of 4 years’ experience in internal control, auditing, and/or compliance, preferably within an INGO or similar organisation.
  • Understanding of fraud and bribery awareness and mitigation strategies, with the ability to identify risks and vulnerabilities within systems.
  • Strong report-writing skills with the ability to present findings clearly and concisely.
  • Proficiency in both English and Portuguese (written and spoken).
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate, influence, and build effective relationships.
  • Results-oriented, proactive, and willing to challenge established processes for improvement.
  • Willingness to travel within Mozambique, including field locations.
  • Strong cultural awareness and the ability to work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Demonstrates high levels of ethics and integrity, ensuring accountability in all actions and communications.
  • Experience in evaluating systems and processes, identifying weaknesses, and proposing areas for improvement.
