The position
AKF is implementing the CSP-COESO II Project, which is part of the European Instrument contributing to Stability and Peace (IcSP) and is an initiative of the Aga Khan Foundation in Northern Mozambique and part of an extensive portfolio of efforts aimed at improving the lives of rural communities. The project’s long-term objective is to improve the lives of families in the districts of Chiure, Metuge and Montepuez in Cabo Delgado; and Marrupa and Majune in Niassa. The Village Development Committees (CDAs) are a gateway into the communities and use an approach centred on respect for socio-cultural diversity; community participation and organisation; integrated actions and partnerships.

The Project Manager is responsible for the planning, management and implementation of all activities, with specific attention to ensuring that the services offered are accessible and appropriate for both women and men, young people and adults.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

Programme Area
Work with AKF staff in the definition of strategies, development and planning of Civil Society actions, including those related to the Development of CDAs, Consultative Councils and existing economic or social groups in each community. It will continuously promote participatory forms in the processes of creating some CDAs, drawing up the Development and Operational Plans of these groups, training and federating them into advisory councils. You will also collaborate with district/community staff and implementing partners in planning, analysing, monitoring, evaluating and budgeting activities.

Monitor and analyse the implementation of project activities, including the mobilisation of communities, the development of educational material, training and education of Facilitators and Community Agents, and capacity building and collaboration with local government staff, including heads and other officials of administrative posts and localities.

Carry out rapid data collection that can inform the initial programming of the project. Ensure that the initial data collection recommended by the project is carried out quickly and to the highest possible quality, always guaranteeing the integration of cross-cutting aspects (gender, environment, etc.);

Managing collaboration and partnership relationships with governmental entities.

Participate and collaborate actively in the orientation, training and ongoing monitoring of the project’s Supervisors and Facilitators. This includes running regular meetings with Supervisors and Facilitators, monitoring the work to ensure that it is in line with the principles, methodologies, strategies and results to be achieved by the communities and the project.

The requirements

  • To have a university degree in the Social Sciences or other areas related to Civil Society, Community Development and Social Entrepreneurship (Postgraduate qualification is preferred);
  • Have at least 5 years’ experience in project management in one of the above areas;
  • Have experience in strategic development, community development, capacity building of Community Based Organisations (CBOs), NGOs, district decentralisation;
  • Have experience of managing people and finances;
  • Have experience of working as part of a team;
  • Have experience of communicating, establishing strategic relationships with Provincial and District Governments, Civil Society and the Private Sector;
  • Have experience of coordinating with multidisciplinary teams to achieve the objectives set.
