Duties

The Strategy to Prevent Conflict and Promote Stability (SPCPS) is a joint effort by the U.S. government and partners to address root causes of violence and build durable, inclusive peace. U.S. Embassy Maputo’s SPCPS programs are focusing first on conflict-affected areas in northern Mozambique. Programs include a broad range of economic growth, democracy, and stabilization activities which require communications and outreach support. The position will be located in northern Mozambique in a situational telework position. The incumbent will travel to Economic Support Fund (ESF)-funded SPCPS program activity implementation sites approximately once a week throughout the year.

The basic function of the position is to support ESF-funded SPCPS programs promoting economic and political stability, provide analysis on ESF-funded program locations, implementation, and stabilization efforts, and proactively engage with local Mozambique Implementing Partners (IPs) through meetings, site visits, written communications, and SMS texts. Additionally, the position will liaise with local host government officials, local security sector actors, NGOs, and International Donor Organizations. Work is performed under the general supervision of the SPCPS Coordinator.

There are two available roles, one based in Pemba city and another in Nampula city.

Requirements:

FOR THE EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS APPLICANTS MUST MEET EITHER OPTION 1 OR OPTION 2 TO QUALIFY.

 

Option 1

 

EDUCATION: A bachelor’s degree in business/economics, political science, public administration, communications/journalism, or development is required.

 

EXPERIENCE: A minimum of five years’ experience working in post conflict and/or post disaster programs; experience traveling and working in remote, rugged terrain in Mozambique is required. Demonstrated experience in managing sensitive information in a professional manner.

 

Familiarity with at least one or more of the local languages spoken in the province in which s/he resides is required.

 

 

Option 2

 

EDUCATION: Two years of University Studies (no specific field is required).

 

EXPERIENCE: A minimum of seven years’ experience working in post conflict and/or post disaster programs; experience traveling and working in remote, rugged terrain in Mozambique is required. Demonstrated experience in managing sensitive information in a professional manner.

 

Familiarity with at least one or more of the local languages spoken in the province in which s/he resides is required.

English Level – Good working knowledge – speaking, reading & writing. This may be tested.

 

Portuguese Level – Fluent; speaking/reading/writing, may include the ability to translate. This may be tested.
