Programme Presentation

The IFPI (Improved Family Planning Initiative) is a 5-year project being implemented in Sofala, Nampula and 5 districts of Zambézia province in partnership with N’weti Comunicação para saúde, Abt Associates, Popuation Services International (PSI), Coalition and Mulher Lei e Desenvolvimento (MULEIDE), with the aim of improving women’s maternal and child health by increasing the use of voluntary family planning services.

Purpose of Position

The Programmes Nurse is responsible for providing technical assistance and supporting the management of the Family Planning component, liaison with the project’s community network. The Programme Nurse works in close collaboration with the District Coordinator, Provincial Programme Manager, and other SDSMAS team members and counterparts in addition to providing direct support at the US level and to the community network in the implementation of project strategies and activities. The programme component addresses issues around reproductive health and informed choice of contraceptive methods. The project nurse will coordinate all actions related to the continuing technical training of health personnel on FP issues; Adolescent & Youth Sexual and Reproductive Health (AdYSRH), integration of FP into other health facility-based services (particularly HIV and AIDS, CHW and Immunisation, ANC, PPC); comprehensive FP counselling, which includes topics on postponing pregnancy, healthy spacing between pregnancies, advantages and disadvantages of each method in addition to the promotion of long-acting and permanent methods.

Main Responsibilities

Work closely with the District Coordinator and Provincial Programme Officer to maximise opportunities for implementing activities;
Provide technical support to health providers in the US supported by the project, including training, supervision and mentoring;
Participate in the planning, coordination and prioritisation of activities – on-the-job training, supervision, mentoring, Health Statistics meetings, Task Force meetings;
Drawing up monthly and quarterly work plans, analyses and reports together with provincial management and coordination, in accordance with project procedures;
Ensure the development of joint and ongoing activities with community partners at district and provincial level to further develop collaboration;
Maintaining regular information and attendance at health meetings where issues relating to the FP and relevant to the project being implemented are discussed;
Providing technical support to organisations by supporting supervisions and technical meetings with activists and other agents involved in the project being implemented;
Coordinating interventions with partners at community level, in collaboration with the institutional capacity building team;
Carry out other tasks assigned by the Provincial Programme Officer and Provincial Coordinator;
Reports to the District Coordinator and Provincial Programme Officer;
Draw up profiles and requisitions for follow-up actions under the supervision of the District Coordinator and Provincial Programme Officer;
Carry out any other task assigned to them.
Basic Requirements

Maternal and Child Health Nurse with secondary or higher education;
Professional experience of 2 years to 5 years in the provision of technical assistance and programme management in the area of SRH, experience and understanding of issues and approaches to the provision of integrated reproductive health services, including family planning, essential maternal and obstetric care in primary health care settings;
Ability to speak and write fluently in Portuguese and knowledge of local languages is an advantage;
Ability to develop teamwork and maintain working relationships with government, non-governmental agencies and other co-operation partners at local level;
A motorbike driving licence is an advantage.
